STORIES HAVE BEEN AROUND FOR AVERY LONG TIME SINCE THE ANCIENT DAYS WHEN OUR GRAND PARENTS SAT AROUND THE FIRE AND SHARED CONSTRUCTIVE STORIES THAT SOMETIMES HELPED TO CALM THE CHILDREN AND TO MAKE THEM TO LOOK FOWARD TO BED TIME BECAUSE THAT IS WHEN MOST STORIES CAME AROUND...EVEN NOW IN THE 21 CENTUARY STORIES ARE STILL EFECTIVE FOR, INSTANCE BED TIME STORIES ARE IMPORTANT BECAUSE THEY HELP TO IMPROVE YOUR CHILDS LISTENING SKILLS AND USE OF LANGUAGE.RESEARCH REVEALS THAT READING STORIES TO CHILRDEN IS A GOOG IDEA BECAUSE IT HELPS THEM ACADEMICALLY ,CONSIDERING THE FACT THAT STORIES HAVE THE POWER TO OPEN YOUR CHIDLS MIND ,MAKE HIM/HER CONCETRATE ON WHAT IS BEING SAID AND TO IMPROVE THEIR LITERATURE SKILL..STORIES ARE IMPORTANT ESPECIALLY FOR US BLACK PEOPLE BECAUSE THERE ARE STORIES THAT INFORM US ABOUT OUR CULTURAL BACKGROUNDS AND THEY MAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE MORE KNOWLADGE ABOUT WHERE WE COME FROM , AS THE SAYING GOES IF YOU KNOW WHERE YOU COME FROM YUO WILL DEFINATELY KNOW WHERE YOU ARE HEADING. SOME STORIES TEACH US LESSONS ,LIKE IF A CERTAIN CHARRACTER MADE MISTAKE WE ACUALLY SEE HIS/HER WAY OUT OF THE PROBLEM SO BASICALLY STORIES SOMEHOW MAKE US LEARN FROM THE MISTAKES MADE BY THE CHARRACTER ..SO IF YOU THOUGHT READING STORIES IS OUT- DATED THINK AGAIN
i am who am i because of my culture im a proud Xhosa woman who is beautiful intellegant.i follow my culture which AMASIKO NEZITHETHE,as we the black people we prefer to follow other culture such as many of this cultures.we must be a proud XHOSA nation even thou we have nothing on our hands.back in the early years we used to praise ancesters and QAmata that was the Xhosa instructions but now we live in a BORN FREE COUNTRY where everyone do as he please's.Back in then we where equal where everyone was rich and did not care about money, golds nad everything that we do have now.If we compare today's generation and early days the was no theft, rich or poor people every was enjoying being the same person that now we forgeten to be.We all want to be rich but the fact is that we dont know how to be rich,we want to take from those who have nothing we are now strangers to our Greatparents who are now our ancesters we are an embarrassment to our ancesters
Storytelling is an ancient art, it has been around since our
ancestors sat around the fire and told stories to their
grandchildren. It was used to make children look forward to bedtime
because that's when most of the stories were told. It's a
interesting way to teach children about their culture and improve
their language and listening skills. Moreover, research reveals that
telling stories to children makes them do better academically.
It's important for Xhosa people to tell stories because it is a
part of our customs and rituals which are known as amasiko
Xhosa people todaytend
customs and religions, forgetting the important lessons storytelling
gave them about their origin and culture. They no longer remember
the ancient times when society
was more equal as everyone
had cattle, praised Qamata
ancestors and cared
less about gold and money.
the born-free generation have
therefore become strangers to our great-grandparents
who are now our ancestors.
where you come from does
not mean returning to the past but
being better equipped
for the future.
fact that many of us are
struggling to meet our daily needs
should not not prevent us from practising
there is always a time for a story. So even though we have
electricity we sometimes need to give our TVs a break and go
back to our
storytelling you will remember
embrace everything that was was bought by colonisation but
use your past to strengthen your future. So
if you think reading stories is outdated think again!
The puku story festival is a festival that is annually held in grahamstownin settlers monument but this year it was held in the literature museum in Durban street it took place from the 21-25 offebruary . the festival isbasically about literature in isiXhosa actually it is about enriching our culter through reading and listening to stories and poetry
I went the festival with the aware net group and had a ball it was amazing because we got to meet the founder of the festival who is sisulu’s daughterand we took pictures with her and we had a little conversation her because of our previous article. I had a great time because of we were treated like celebrities, considering the fact that we had a radio interviewwith one of the biggest radio station in mzantsiumhlobo wenene and so many pictures of us were taken by photographers for different media resources like news papers and the internet
Well from my experience the festival it a grate idea not only because it improves our literature skills but also because it gave us a better understanding of who we are and where we come from and seeing you people who embrace their culter inspired me to do the same
