Jason the Paramedic gives a talk at Ntaba Maria Primary about his Health Profession
On Monday I invited Jason a Netcare paramedic worker to come and give a talk to the Ntaba Maria learners about health care and first aid.Being in his profession for 5 years he has learned the hardship of his Job.He said you have to be a strong person in this job a being able to handle all things from visiting hectic accident scenes to bleeding furious bodies to even delivering babies when mothers cant reach the hospitals in time.
Asking the learners if they wanted to become a paramedic only one learner raised her hand saying her passion is to work with sick people and saving lives.Jason then went on explaining a little bit to the learners what first aid was all about and what to do in time of emergencies especially when a persons bleeding!He asked the learners if they new how many litres of blood is in the human body,he then asked each learner to give answer the closest one guest 5l,he then told them the human body has 6-8l of blood which was interesting to know.A little bit of science of the human body was also explained to the learners and even how many beats per minutes the heart beats,60-120 beats.
First aid was then once again explained to the learners,this time what to do when a persons cuts himself and is bleeding put pressure on the wound to stop the bleeding.The next step in hes talk was to show the learners his special first aid kit he carries around were ever he goes.He showed them how to wrap a bandage on a open wound or a injury.He told them what to do when somebody gets burned wound telling them to put cold water on the wound and not margarine or sunlight soap.
The next step was to show them how a drip works and what to do to find a proper vein for the drip to be put in.The learners really enjoyed the talk and said they have learn t a lot from "Mr Jason"as they called him before he left.The learners all got up and thank him for coming where after he handed out Netcare water bottles to all the learners who attended the talk.
